In late August 2024, Typhoon Shanshan struck Japan, particularly impacting the southern island of Kyushu.

The storm, one of the strongest in decades, brought winds of up to 252 km/h and heavy rainfall, resulting in flooding, landslides, and extensive damage to over 200 buildings.

At least six people were killed, with many more injured and widespread evacuations ordered for millions due to dangerous conditions.

Climate change has been cited as a factor in the storm’s intensity, reflecting a trend of more severe weather events in the region.
